Prostitution is not a choice because the precise conditions that make for a choice are absent; for example, equality with buyers, physical safety, real alternatives. If you imagine a pyramid, only five percent of those in prostitution are at the top. They are privileged by race and class. The other 95 percent don’t have that privilege or alternatives for escape.
Our studies show that the johns who have bought the most women in prostitution are the most likely to commit sexually coercing acts with non-prostituted women.»
